A Family Tradition Worth Toasting: The Kapusta Family and Their Custom Mugs

Picture a morning in a cozy bed, a warm mug in your hands, and a story waiting in every sip. For Lauri Kapusta and her family, that feeling has been collecting for over thirty years, and some of the most treasured mugs on their shelves were made right here at Deneen Pottery.

Where the Collection Began

It all started with a single mug from Settler’s Inn in the Poconos, purchased for her son Andrew’s first birthday more than thirty years ago. One mug turned into two, then ten, then a collection of more than 150, gathered from bed and breakfasts, National Parks, and other special places all across the country.

Every mug in Lauri’s collection is a souvenir of somewhere she’s been and a memory of who she was with. We love that kind of story, because it’s exactly how we think about every mug we make.

In 2012, Lauri’s husband Gary worked with us to design a custom mug for their 25th wedding anniversary. It was their first custom Deneen mug to join the Kapusta family collection, and it wouldn’t be the last!

Since then, our mugs have been part of the biggest days in the Kapusta family:

2016: Christina and Cesare’s wedding
2020: Andrew and Taylor’s wedding
2026: Garrett and Rachel’s wedding

For each celebration, the family designed a custom mug to share with their friends and family. As Lauri put it, they were thrilled to turn these milestones into treasured keepsakes.

From a 25th anniversary to three weddings, these mugs now mark a story that spans generations.

Quality That Lasts

When we asked Lauri what brought her to Deneen Pottery, the answer was simple: quality and durability. She told us our mugs make every hot beverage a special treat. Hearing that from someone who has more than 150 mugs to compare is about the best compliment we could ask for!

Just as meaningful was what she shared about working together. It has always been professional, she said, yet we excel with the personal touch. As a family-owned pottery, that’s exactly what we aim for, and it means the world to hear it from a family who has trusted us through so many milestones.

The best part of a custom mug is what happens after the big day. Lauri told us that countless times, friends and family have shared that they use their Kapusta mugs and think of them. Every morning coffee becomes a little reminder of the celebration.

Thank you, Lauri, Gary, and the entire Kapusta family, for letting us be part of your milestones for more than a decade.
