Mount Rainier National Park Spotlight

Rising 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier is the most iconic peak in the Pacific Northwest and the crown jewel of Washington state. As the fifth national park established in the U.S. (in 1899), it holds a special place in our country’s conservation story. But its significance stretches back much further. For thousands of years, this land has been home to Indigenous tribes including the Cowlitz, Muckleshoot, Nisqually, Puyallup, and Yakama, who hold the mountain sacred.

With 25 active glaciers, vibrant meadows, ancient forests, and over 260 miles of trails, Mount Rainier is both a powerful geological force and a place of awe-inspiring beauty. It is, in fact, an active stratovolcano, though it hasn’t erupted in over a millennium. Still, it’s carefully monitored by scientists due to its glacial activity and potential hazards. This ever-changing landscape continues to captivate millions of visitors annually, and it’s easy to see why. Read more about Mount Rainier here!
