Glensheen Mansion: A 1908 Estate Meets a Handmade Mug

On the shore of Lake Superior, a historic estate has been welcoming visitors through its doors for over a century. Glensheen Mansion is a place where Minnesota history feels close enough to touch. Now guests can take a little of that history home in a handmade mug from Deneen Pottery!

A Legacy Built on the Lake

Established in 1908, Glensheen was originally the home of the Congdon family. Today the estate is owned by the University of Minnesota and open to guests who come to tour the mansion and grounds.

Every great visit ends in the gift shop, and Glensheen’s team wanted theirs to feel as special as the estate itself. For a while, Glensheen’s gift shop carried mugs that many other North Shore shops also carried. It was fine, but it wasn’t theirs.

Amy and the Glensheen team wanted something unique, something of real quality, and something made close to home. They wanted the “perfect” mug for any visitor who walked through the shop, whether that guest was a history buff, a gardener, or a first-time tourist looking for a keepsake.

Four Designs, One Special Logo

The result is four mug designs, each topped off with a Glensheen logo designed by one of their own marketing students. It’s a fitting touch for an estate owned by a university, and it makes each mug a true Glensheen original.

For Glensheen, the partnership felt right from the very beginning. Amy shared that great customer service and a great product made the decision easy.

The results speak for themselves. The mugs consistently sell, and the Glensheen team is proud to tell guests exactly where they come from: handmade by a family-owned pottery right here in Minnesota. Two Minnesota legacies, one mug in your hands.

When a guest picks up a Glensheen mug, Amy hopes they notice what the team noticed from the start. This is real quality, made right here in Minnesota.

We couldn’t be prouder to be part of the Glensheen story. Thank you, Amy and the whole Glensheen team, for trusting us with your mugs!

So the next time you find yourself on the shores of Lake Superior, stop by Glensheen Mansion, tour the estate, and take home a mug that’s as much a part of Minnesota as the lake itself. Learn more at https://glensheen.d.umn.edu/
